My Castle

Why did dark clouds appear today?
I was working hard at rebuilding my life.
It was as if the winds had turned on me.
I braced myself for the winter storm.
It sapped my strength, but I was safe.

With clearing skies, I stood strong again.
As the storm left I learned no lessons.
I still worked hard for a fleeting gain.

I have built a giant castle alone.
It fills me with pride and honor.
All my treasures were saved within.

The clouds returned as a challenge.
I met their test with a bold anger.
A torrent descended and all was lost.
My castle had been on shifting sand.
Still ignorant, I built again.
