Tell Me Why

Tell me why you close each day
           with the clasp of hands
           with a prayer for tomorrow
It is a gesture of faith and service

Each day that passes begins
           with birds that sing
           with squirrels at play
           with beautiful flowers
They grow strong in the daylight

Once I saw the reason for your smile
with a life full of contentment
           with peace that you share
with our bond that grows strong
You spread a blanket of hope around you

I see the clarity of your vocation
with a wealth to share freely
with a voice that spills pure thoughts
I am strengthened when you are near

When I work in my silence, my day grows cold
When I sleep in the day, my time congeals into muck
Please talk to me because I enjoy your cheerful presence
